KATA – Improvement KATA and Coaching KATA – Webinar

Kata (Japanese, 1st form, traditional form; 2nd prescribed size; 3rd prescribed embodiment) describes a philosophy of constant repetition and practice of complex work processes in order to establish a learning routine. This makes it possible to approach a clearly defined target state in small steps. The approximation is mostly done experimentally, which makes it all the more important to describe the actual and target state precisely from the outset. The specified target states must also be achievable for the employees and thus promote the motivation to get involved in this way of working. The skills of the employees only increase when they venture out of their secure work environment, the comfort zone, get to know new ways of thinking in a learning zone and begin to apply them routinely.

In the interplay between improvement and coaching KATA you will learn how you personally develop into a successful coach and are thus able to develop and accompany changes in your company in a targeted manner from the comfort area to the learning and improvement area.

In many companies, process improvement takes place as a project in a project team or is the task of a single special department. The relief for the employees who work in the process every day is usually not done quickly enough and often without involving those affected in the process. The frequent consequence is that the successes simply fizzle out again after the respective implementation wave, agreed standards are not adhered to and old thought patterns come to the surface again. What is even more serious is that such an approach misses the chance to include the creativity, knowledge and experience of the employees for the necessary improvement of the processes. The so-called “Improvement KATA” describes a routine that enhances the creativity, knowledge and experience of employees, who work in the process every day are activated. The routine offers a standardized approach to problem solving that the employee takes on. The coaching KATA reflects the controlling accompaniment of this routine. The following elements are of paramount importance:

  • Interaction between coach and mentee as part of KATA.
  • The elements of improvement and coaching KATA.
